Nude ride to show relying on fuel is a bum steer

BARE-BUM bikers will take to Melbourne’s streets this weekend in a cheeky two-wheeled protest against oil dependency.
More than 200 people have already signed up for the Melbourne leg of the World Naked Bike Ride on Saturday, already eclipsing last year’s record of 50.
Organiser Heidi Hill urged other environmentally aware Melburnians to ditch their threads and climb into the saddle for the cause.
“By riding naked we make ourselves vulnerable: a truly blissful, non-threatening, peaceful way to show the world we care,” she said.
Last year’s hour-long ride provided a colourful spectacle and received a warm reception from onlookers as they passed tourist hotspots including Lygon St’s restaurant precinct and Parliament House.
Damp conditions saw two unlucky riders come unstuck on wet tram tracks but luckily nobody was hurt. Organisers hope for kinder weather this year.
“Although the dress code for the ride is ‘go as bare as you dare’, nudity is not compulsory,” Ms Hill said, adding that it was important that the green message wasn’t lost in a sea of flesh.
